14 Section October 20, 1968 S. F. Sunday Examiner Chronicle Obituaries Last Rites Set For B. Sifford Funeral services for Benton A. Sifford, a leading Oakland insurance broker, will be held tomorrow.

Mr. Sifford died Thursday in Oakland at 82. His was a pioneer American family, his ancestors having come to North Carolina from Holland in the mid 18th century. His family came to California in 1850, settled on a large ranch in Lassen County, where he was born in 1886. Mr.

Sifford came to San Francisco in 1905 and went into the fire insurance business. He was for many vice president and Pacific Coast manager of Security Rite Set For 'Poet' Hansen Funeral services for Mathew Hansen, 95, "poet laureate" of Marin County's Miracle Mile, will be held at 11 a.m. tomorrow in the Chapel of the Hills Mortuary in San Anselmo. Mr. Hansen died Thursday in a Marin County convalescent home.

DUAL CAREERS For more than 50 years Mr. Hansen had combined the dual careers of landscape gardener and poet. His home at 210 Redhill Drive in San Anselmo has been a landmark for the beauty of its terraced gardens and series of eight waterfalls. On his 90th birthday, Mr. Hansen had completed the 20 foot waterfall, which was the last and tallest of the falls.

His works of poetry were many and well circulated. Perhaps his best known work was "Mr. Jones and His Maker," a collection of poems. STUDIED AT 90 Religion and philosophy were his hobbies and in his 90th year he completed a course in Russian Language as a night student at the College of Marin. Mr.

Hansen arrived from his native Bornholm Island in the Baltic Sea in April, 1906, just in time to experience San Francisco's great earthquake and fire. In 1912 he moved to Marin County. Inurnment will be private. Frances Cranton, 78, San Rafael Funeral Services will be held Tuesday in San Rafael for Frances S. Cranton, who died Friday in a San Rafael Hospital at 78.

Mrs. Cranton was the mother of June Cranston Black, chief deputy clerk in the Marin Municipal Court. She is also survived by two stepchildren, Mrs. Bernice A. Keaton of San Rafael and Herbert Cranton of San Francisco.

A native of Nova Scotia, she was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Truro, Nova Scotia. She was also a past Noble Grand of Golden Star Rebecca Lodge, past council commander of the Woodmen of the World, San Rafael chapter, and a member of the Rainbow Sewing Club. Services will be held from Keaton's Mortuary in San Rafael. Inurnment will be at the Chapel of the Chimes in Santa Rosa. tomorrow at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Oakland. Friends may call at the Albert Brown Mortuary, 3476 Piedmont until 9 o'clock tonight. Marcus Davis, Educator Funeral services will be held Tuesday for Marcus F. Davis, former superintendent of the Sausalito School District.

Mr. Davis died Thursday at his home in San Francisco. He was 54. He has recently returned from Vietnam where he served as an educational advisor for the State Department. Mr.

Davis, who was born in Oakland, attended Lowell High School and San Francisco State College. In World War II he served in the Marine Corps. He joined the Sausalito School District in 1953 as principal of Richardson Bay School. In 1958 he was appointed superintendent and served until 1965. Later that year he became curriculum coordinator for San Mateo County schools.

Mr. Davis is a past president of the Sausalito Rotary Club. He is survived by his wife Rudelle, of San Francisco; a son, Brian, of Redwood City; a sister, Helen Wunderling, of Palo Alto; and two brothers, Francis of San Francisco and Richard of Lafayette. Services will be held from N. Grey and Company, at 10 a.m.

Tuesday. Funeral Set In Marin for Peter Hansen Funeral services for Peter R. Hansen, retired San Francisco laundry owner, will be held at 2 p.m. tomorrow in the Chapel of the Hills mortuary in San Anselmo. Mr.

Hansen died yesterday in Marin General Hospital after a brief illness. He was 64. He had been born in Albany, N.Y., and had resided in San Francisco many years before moving to Forest Knolls in Marin County in 1948. He was past president of the Danish Singing Society in San Francisco and a member of Islam Temple of the Shrine here. Mr.

Hansen is survived by his wife, Thelma, a brother, Christian, of Albany, and three sisters living in Denmark. News Cartoonist William Warren Suicide Victim CLAREMONT (AP) William Warren, 86, author and retired political cartoonist, has been found shot to death in an apparent suicide, police said yesterday. Warren was a cartoonist for 25 years on such papers as the Chicago Tribune, Buffalo Evening News, Cleveland News and Philadelphia Public Ledger. He retired from cartooning in 1939 to write books for young people. The most recent was "Black Lobe," published in 1967.
